The Haig pays tribute to golf legend walter hagen; Hickory sticks tournament June 20 at elmbrook

The Grand Traverse Heritage Center hosts one of the most unique golf tournaments in the state.

Known as “The Haig”, the tournament pays tribute to Walter Hagen, one of golf’s finest, who made what he called his “first home” in Traverse City in 1954.

Currently entering its sixth year, The Haig is traditionally held at Elmbook Golf Course in Traverse City on Friday, June 20, with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

Participants play in a scramble format with traditional “wooden sticks” and dress in period apparel, clubs and outerwear that were common in the early 1900s.

Cost is $125 per person and $500 for a foursome.
